Linotype

Linotype Machine, Huntsville, AL

March, 2023

This Linotype machine functions perfectly, and comes with lots of ancillary equipment...everything needed to print your own newspaper. The 91 year old owner of the machine was once a Linotype repairman, which he chronicaled in his book "Tramp Printer". He started this career at the age of 13, when he first repaired the machine at his grandfather's newspaper office. The Linotype is a model 8. It also comes with a printing press (the smaller machine with the big wheels and leather belts), also restored. See photos below. Both run on 220V. As you can see, both machines have been disassembled, cleaned, tweaked, and adjusted, and run fine in the current condition.

The machine comes with wooden cabinets packed with various fonts and sizes, lead type formatting setting paraphernalia, and about 10 "platens" so 10 full newspaper size pages (or smaller) and be laid out for printing at one time.

The Linotype comes with several different fonts and sizes, drawers full of them. "Typefaces", I believe they are called.

The Linotype machine and all equipment must go together. I don't have time or the energy to part all this stuff out to several hundred buyers, so you have to take it all with you when you take the Linotype machine. There are also metal recyclers and a landfill within 20 minutes drive, but I'm doing my best to honor Bob's legacy by seeing it all go to a good home where it is appreciated. Thanks....
